🧗♂️ Hi, I'm Ryan Gibson, the dynamic leader behind Mountaineering Wales, a passionate advocate for rock climbing and mountaineering adventures amidst the stunning landscapes of Wales.
With a deep-rooted love for the mountains and a commitment to promoting outdoor exploration, I've become a beacon of inspiration within the climbing community. My journey began with a single step onto the rocky terrain of Wales, igniting a lifelong passion for vertical ascents and alpine challenges.
Beyond the physical thrill of climbing, I believe strongly in the importance of mental wellbeing in the outdoors. As we navigate the peaks and valleys, I encourage a holistic approach to adventure, one that not only challenges the body but nourishes the soul. Whether it's finding moments of serenity amidst breathtaking vistas or supporting each other through the mental hurdles of a challenging climb, I prioritize mental health as an integral part of our mountain experiences.
As the driving force behind Mountaineering Wales, I'm dedicated to fostering a culture of adventure, camaraderie, and holistic wellness. Whether guiding climbers through the rugged peaks of Snowdonia, I ensure that each journey is not only exhilarating but also promotes mental resilience and emotional well-being.
As a seasoned rock climbing instructor and certified mountain leader, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every adventure. My commitment to excellence in instruction, coupled with a profound respect for the natural environment, sets the standard for aspiring climbers and seasoned mountaineers alike.
Join me and the Mountaineering Wales community on an unforgettable exploration of Wales' rugged beauty, where every ascent is a testament to the human spirit, the boundless wonders of the great outdoors, and the importance of mental wellbeing.

I retired in from the police in December 2022 having served 30 years mostly as a sergeant on the firearms unit. Hi I’m Patrick Hollingsworth, I’m Mountaineering Wales resident nerd.
Love psychology and getting
involved in psychology research. I’m a big fan of wild places and sharing experiences with people in
outdoor settings.
I have spent 5 years qualifying as a psychotherapist completing a BSc in psychology at Bangor and an
MSc in counselling/ psychotherapy. I have been practicing as a
psychotherapist for 2 years and
I’m
currently involved in research
projects with Leaf Health. I picked Bangor so that I could continue to
enjoy climbing and other outdoor activities whilst qualifying.
I am the resident mental health expert
for mountaineering Wales for any projects we have related to
this area.
Before starting my journey to
become a therapist I underwent jungle survival and expedition
leadership training with
trekforce a UK company running courses in Belize in 2011. After this I was an
expedition leader for to multi
month stints in the amazon for LPAC conservation. During this time, I
traveled to climb in US national parks and New Zealand. Upon
returning to the UK, I completed my
mountain leader training in 2016 before beginning my studies in 2017. Having returned to the
outdoor industry I am currently working on my climbing instructor award. I’m excited to share
both of my passions with anyone that joins us for adventures at
mountaineering Wales.
At Mountaineering Wales, we believe that a supportive community is essential to achieving your health and fitness goals. That's why we've created a welcoming and inclusive environment where everyone is encouraged to achieve their best self.
